Frequently Asked Questions

Which software should I learn first?
Adobe Premiere Pro is the industry standard in Sri Lanka. DaVinci Resolve is free and excellent for colour grading. CapCut is essential for short-form / TikTok work.
How much can a video editor earn in Sri Lanka?
Juniors earn LKR 60,000–110,000/month. Senior editors earn LKR 180,000–300,000, and freelancers editing for overseas YouTubers earn LKR 300,000–1,200,000+.
Do I need a powerful computer?
For HD editing a Ryzen 7 / M1 laptop with 16GB RAM is enough. For 4K and heavy After Effects work, a desktop with 32GB RAM and a dedicated GPU is recommended.
Can I edit for overseas clients from Sri Lanka?
Yes — this is one of the fastest-growing remote careers. Editors regularly earn USD 500–3,000+ per month editing for US and UK YouTubers on Fiverr / Upwork / direct.
Do I need a degree to become a video editor?
No. A strong showreel is what gets you hired. Formal diplomas help early on but are not mandatory.
Is AI going to replace video editors?
AI tools (auto-cut, transcription, sound cleanup) speed editors up rather than replace them. Editors who use AI tools plus strong storytelling are the most in-demand.
