Career Overview
Heavy vehicle and machinery operators drive and operate the equipment that builds and moves the country — excavators, backhoes, cranes, forklifts, bulldozers, prime movers, tippers and container trucks. Construction sites, ports, quarries and factories all depend on skilled operators.
In Sri Lanka, operators are constantly needed on construction and road projects, at the ports and container yards around Colombo, and in mining, plantations and logistics fleets. Machine operators (excavator, crane, forklift) typically out-earn drivers, and multi-machine skills raise pay further.
Overseas demand is enormous. Gulf construction and logistics companies recruit Sri Lankan operators year after year, Korea's EPS programme accepts machinery operators, and heavy vehicle drivers are also recruited to countries like Israel and Japan. Certified crane and excavator operators earn some of the highest trade salaries abroad — LKR 300,000–700,000+ monthly.
